BIOGRAPHY

Xi Li 李曦, aka xixi.tv, also known as Li Xi, is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher. Born in Harbin, China, based in Auckland, New Zealand. In 2019, she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photo Media from Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design. In 2021, she received a Master of Fine Arts (with first-class honours) from Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. Her creative practice encompasses a range of media, including digital film, moving images, animation, 3D-printed sculptures, performance, spatial installations, virtual reality, games, and diagrams. Her work often presents the interaction between physical experiences and the digital realm through grand narratives and extensive projects.

Xi Li integrates various research frameworks, such as psychoanalysis, postmodernity, semiotics, and phenomenology, to express a series of self-mythologies and critical dialogues. Her interests focus on the complexity of subjective and collective experiences, exploring the construction and transformation of consciousness and subjectivity in contemporary digital technology, capitalism, cyberspace, popular and subcultures, and the intersections of ideologies.
 
Her cross-cultural background sparks a particular interest in issues related to the fluidity of global diaspora and identity, gender and racial belonging, marginalization, colonization, geopolitical dynamics, and deterritorialization; also pays attention to hyper-cultural and artificial landscapes. Xi Li is dedicated to merging theoretical research with artistic practice, constituting expressions and challenges that link the two realms.
 
Xi Li has worked as a lecturer at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design and as a Professional Teaching Fellow at Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland. Active in the Aotearoa art scene, Xi Li has exhibited internationally, including recent shows in Australia and Austria. Her recent solo exhibitions include "The Transcendence Labyrinth of Idols" at Te Tuhi, "The Generation of The Hyperreal" at The Arts House Trust, and "Spirit Ether" at The Physics Room Contemporary Art Space.
